Candle Care & Safety Guide
Botanical Pillar Candles – Candle Care Guide
Our botanical pillar candles are hand-poured using natural soy wax and decorated with real dried flowers. They are designed to burn down the inner core, creating a warm lantern-like glow while keeping the outer botanical walls beautifully intact.
As our candles are handcrafted with natural botanicals and soy wax, slight variations in appearance, small surface imperfections, or 'frosting' may occur. These are natural characteristics and do not affect the quality or burn of your candle.
Please follow these guidelines for a safe, clean, and long-lasting burn.
Treat your candle with care and love by following a few simple instructions and safety precautions. This will help you enjoy the best performance from your candle every time you use it. By using our candles, you accept responsibility for following the safety guidance provided here and with your product.
1. First Burn
- Burn for 1–2 hours to form a full melt pool inside the inner core.
- The outer botanical walls should NOT melt; only the centre liquefies.
- Trim the wick to 5–6 mm (approx. 1/4 inch) before the first burn.
2. Wick Care
- Trim the wick to 5–6 mm before each burn.
- Remove any "mushroom" (carbon buildup) or charred tip from the wick before relighting. This prevents a large, flickering flame that could damage the botanical walls.
- Helps prolong candle life and ensures a safe, steady flame.
- Remove wick trimmings or debris from melted wax.
3. Safe Burning
- Avoid burning for more than 2 hours at a time. Allow the candle to cool before relighting.
- Always burn on a heat-resistant plate or tray large enough to catch any potential wax drips and protect your furniture.
- Keep candles at least 10 cm apart from each other, and away from walls, decorations, and flammable objects.
- Always burn candles away from drafts, air vents, fans, and open windows.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Never place candles on or near televisions, electronics, or other heat-producing appliances, as the rising heat can cause the candle to flare or the device to overheat.
- Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Avoid blowing the candle out, as this can cause hot wax to splatter, displace the wick, or ignite the dried botanicals.
- Ensure the wick is no longer glowing and the candle is fully extinguished before leaving the room.
4. Botanical Candle Safety
- If the flame leans or gets too close to the outer wall, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool completely, trim the wick, then relight the candle.
- If any dried flowers fall into the melt pool, remove them carefully only once the wax has fully cooled.
- Discontinue use when approximately 1–1.5 cm (1/2 inch) of wax remains at the bottom.
- As our candles contain natural dried botanicals, slight charring or colour changes may occur during burning. This is a natural characteristic of botanical candles.
5. Storage
-
Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and heat sources to protect the wax and botanicals.
Container Candles – Candle Care Guide
Our container candles are hand-poured using natural soy wax to provide a clean, eco-friendly and long-lasting burn. Follow these simple care guidelines to enjoy your candle safely and get the best performance from every burn.
1. First Burn
- Trim the wick to 5–6 mm before lighting.
- Allow the wax to melt to the very edges of the container during each burn (usually 2–4 hours). This prevents "tunnelling" and ensures the best fragrance experience.
- Keep the candle in a room free from strong drafts to maintain a steady flame and allow the fragrance to fill the space.
2. Wick Care
- Trim the wick to 5–6 mm before every burn.
- Remove any "mushroom" (carbon buildup) from the wick before relighting. This prevents the container from overheating and reduces soot.
- Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings and debris.
3. Safe Burning
- Burn for no longer than 3–4 hours at a time.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets.
- Keep candles at least 10 cm apart from each other, and away from walls, decorations, and flammable objects.
- Always burn in a well-ventilated room away from drafts.
- Never place burning candles on or near televisions or electronics.
- Use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Never use water, as this can cause wax to splatter or glass to shatter.
- Ensure the wick is no longer glowing before leaving the room.
4. Container Safety
- The container may become hot; allow it to cool before moving.
- Always place on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
- Discontinue use when approximately 1 cm (1/2 inch) of wax remains to prevent the glass from overheating or cracking.
- Once your candle has finished, clean the container with warm, soapy water. Our jars are designed to be fully reusable — you can easily refill them with a new fragrance from our refill range, or repurpose your jar as a stylish planter or storage container.
5. Storage
- Store in a cool, dry place to maintain fragrance quality and wax integrity.
