What is a Botanical Candle?
Share
In the quiet moments of a busy day, when the sun begins to dip below the horizon and the world slows into a soft, amber glow, I find there is a certain kind of magic in lighting a candle.
When I founded Blossoms of Eden, I knew I wanted that moment to feel like more than a flicker of light or a passing scent. To me, it should feel like a piece of the earth, a preserved moment of a garden in peak bloom, held gently in time.
This is where the botanical candle began.
If you have ever found yourself captivated by the delicate veins of a pressed petal or the quiet beauty of a dried sprig of lavender, you already understand why these creations feel so personal to me. They are not simply made to scent a room, but to soften it, to bring something natural, calm, and quietly beautiful into your space.
What Exactly is a Botanical Candle?
At its simplest, a botanical candle is a candle infused with real, dried elements: flowers, herbs, spices, or foliage.
But for me, that definition only touches the surface.
Each piece I create is an attempt to hold onto something fleeting, to take the beauty of a bloom at its peak and preserve it in a way that can be lived with, day after day.
I work with two forms, each offering its own quiet kind of magic.
In my Botanical Pillar Candles, an inner core of pure soy wax, scented or unscented, holds the flame, while an outer layer gently encases the botanicals. As the candle burns, the light glows from within, illuminating the petals like stained glass, their beauty untouched by the flame.
In my Botanical Jar Candles, the design goes a step further. Each jar holds two distinct layers: an inner vessel of pure soy wax, scented or unscented, at its heart, surrounded by crystal-clear gel in which I hand-place each botanical. Transparent and luminous, the gel allows the flowers to be seen in full, suspended in time, like blooms caught in the last golden light of a summer's day. And when the inner wax has burned down completely, it can be gently replenished so the beauty of the botanicals lives on, long after the first flame has gone.
The Soul of the Craft
In a world that moves quickly, I have always been drawn to creating things slowly.
Every candle I make is shaped by hand, guided by the natural form of each flower. No two petals are ever the same, and because of that, no two candles are ever truly alike, each one a quiet reflection of nature's own individuality.
There is a certain beauty in that, something unrepeatable, something real.
I believe that what you breathe in should be as pure as the flowers I preserve. That is why each candle is poured using natural soy wax, for a cleaner, longer burn, a softer glow, and a fragrance that feels refined and true to life. I use only premium, phthalate-free fragrance oils, chosen with the same care and intention as every botanical I place by hand.
Scent, to me, is never an afterthought. Sometimes soft and floral, sometimes warm and grounding, sometimes touched with the freshness of the coast, each fragrance is chosen to feel natural, balanced, and quietly evocative.
The light it creates is gentle. The fragrance lingers softly, never overwhelming, becoming part of the room rather than something separate from it.
The Details I Care About
I have always believed that the smallest details are what give something its soul.
The flowers are dried at their peak, when their colour is richest and their form most expressive. The scents are carefully chosen, sometimes floral, sometimes warm, sometimes reminiscent of the sea, always designed to feel natural and quietly refined. And every arrangement is placed by hand, with care and intention, so that each candle carries something of the moment it was made.
Every detail is tended to, the way a garden is, slowly and with love.
A Candle to Live With
I do not think of these candles as something you simply light.
They are pieces to live alongside, placed on a table, glowing softly in the evening, or given as a gift to someone whose home you would like to make a little more beautiful.
Unlike fresh flowers, they do not fade within days. They remain, changing gently over time, but always holding that original sense of beauty. And long after the wax has gone, the memory of receiving something so thoughtfully made tends to linger too.
Bring the Blossom Home
I created Blossoms of Eden to capture something fleeting, and allow it to be experienced again and again.
If you feel drawn to the softness of natural textures, to the quiet presence of candlelight, or to the idea of bringing a garden indoors, I warmly invite you to explore the collection and find the piece that feels as though it was made just for your home.
